HENB Works for Home Educators in New Brunswick and Beyond

Information & Encouragement
• HENB Board Members attend National Leadership conferences allowing us to network with other Home Educating Leaders and Organizations across Canada.
• HENB Board members regularly field questions from perspective Home Educators, Home Educators moving to New Brunswick and inquires from the press about home educating. Both phone calls and email inquires (info@henb.org) are answered in a timely manner by board members.
• Put on an annual conference bringing in well-known speakers from across Canada and the US as our Key Speakers. This conference also includes workshops on practical aspects of home educating, a vendor hall and Used Curriculum Sale.
• Email is used to keep local support group leaders up to date on announcements as well as passing on encourage, concerns, announcements and opportunities for home educators that we come across.
• Produce "Homeward Bound", a newsletter, which goes out via email 3 times annually (October, February and April) to all HENB members.
• Looking into ways to make our website (www.henb.org) more informational for New Brunswick Home Educators.

College and University Admissions
• Worked with Leo Gaumont of Education Unlimited in 2003-2004 to provide three informative Workshops on help with College Admissions.
• Put together a tour for Leo Gaumont of Post Secondary Institutes in New Brunswick and other Atlantic Provinces (i.e. PEI, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland) in June 2004.
• In the spring of 2006, worked with government officials to improve admission for Home Educators to New Brunswick Community Colleges. This included three HENB Board Members meeting with the Minister of post secondary institutions and an admissions official from New Brunswick Community colleges.
• HENB has a goal of doing a comprehensive survey the Admissions policies for Home Educators of Colleges and Universities in New Brunswick.
• Using the format of Education Unlimited (www.educationunlimited.ca) in Alberta, we are working toward linking our survey with other Provinces across Canada.

Government
• HENB annually reviews the Home Schooling registration forms from the Department of Education and communicate with HSLDA to be sure our freedoms to continue to home educate our children are not being invaded. When necessary HSLDA has put produced a memo with their recommendations on handling to forms to their members and HENB has sent that info along to our local support group leaders.
• Working to build positive relationships with the new Minister of Education and get information about home educating to MLAs across the Province.
It is our desire to help you in any way we can. If you have a question contact us at info@henb.org.
